Diana Ross

Diana Ross lead Pop music's biggest all female group, the Supremes, to a record 12 #1 songs before going solo with a career that took her through the next 2 decades in both music and movies. Her mark on future Pop and R&B songstresses is undeniable. Just take a look back at TLC or Destiny's Child and tell me you don't hear a symphony playing.

The term, "Diva" is officially overstated...finally. Although many have received the title, there is only room for true divas and when it comes to the real thing, Aretha Franklin would arguably be crowned as CEO.

Aretha is unsurpassed in her contribution to music, period. Aretha doesn't just sing songs, she lives them before our very ears.  They become a part of our own history and we get to know her on a first name basis. Her pain is our pain.  Her joy is our joy.   She moves us and inspires us.  They don't come around like her but once in a generation.  Icon is too small of a word when paired with the likes of Aretha and no overused title elevates anyone to a status like hers. She may always be known as, "Queen of Soul." but I would argue it's a much larger kingdom that that.
